The rust bar shows the layout name and the line “Live nest workbench”. Toggle MM / INCH (25.4 mm per inch). Grid snap switch; when on, dragged blocks snap to 10 mm. Undo and redo keep a 40-state stack. Save writes Room. Share cut sheet opens a text/plain chooser. Export nest writes a 1080×1080 PNG in cache/share via FileProvider and shares image/png plus the same cut-sheet text.
Live pills: Full, Cuts, Slivers (warn if any), Waste (warn if over 12%), Boxes. If slivers exist, amber copy: “N amber sliver edges under {sliver min}”.
Palette chips add Niche (360×320 mm), Doorway (760×200 mm), or Obstacle (360×320 mm) at room center. Drag on the stage. Selected block: scale width/height 80–1200 mm, bring to front, delete. Drag range is clamped so a block can sit 40 mm outside a wall.
Control-sheet sliders (values stored in millimetres):
A new FAB draft is named “New nest”, Wet wall, 2400×1800 mm, offsets 10/10, 76×152 mm subway, 2 mm joint, 8 mm grout depth, half-bond brick, coverage 1.15 m² / 100 pcs, notes “Draft from the workbench.”
Room size is floored at 80 mm, tile at 20 mm, grout at 0.5 mm. A cell is full if its visible width/height match the module (0.4 mm tolerance), it does not overlap an obstacle, and it sits inside the room (±0.2 mm). Otherwise it is a cut. It is a sliver if it is not full and the smaller visible side is between 0.5 mm and your sliver minimum, or if the overhang past a wall is under that minimum. Sliver callouts use edge labels: Left edge, Right edge, Start wall, Far wall, or Cut. Detail lists up to six; the cut sheet lists up to eight.
Net area = room − obstacle rectangles. Waste % = max(0, (placed tile area − net) / placed × 100). Boxes = max(1, ceil(needed m² / coverage), ceil(cell count / tiles per box)), where needed m² = net × (1 + waste/100). Coverage is ignored if ≤ 0.05 m². Grout volume (L) = grout length × gap × max(1, depth) / 1_000_000. Length starts as columns×height + rows×width, then ×1.04 for brick, ×√2 for diagonal, ×1.22 for herringbone.
Room kinds in the app: Wet wall, Backsplash, Floor field, Shower, Niche face, Utility. All seeded jobs store millimetres (useInches = false). Obstacles that ship with a job are listed in the last column.

Insights pills: average waste (warn > 12%), sliver-job count, sum of boxes, sum of grout litres. Waste bar chart for the first eight jobs (amber over 12%). Grout volume playground: joint slider 1–8 mm, depth 3–16 mm, volume = summed grout length × joint × depth / 1e6. Lists the most recently revised job and up to four sliver-watch cards.
Search (“Find a nest”) matches name or notes, optional pattern, room kind, and a Sliver risk chip. Empty copy: “Seeded jobs stay on-device.”

Settings subtitle: “Theme, units, sliver default — all on-device.” Appearance radios: Follow system, Porcelain light, Kiln night. Switch: Default inches (off until you turn it on). Sliver default slider 8–50 mm. Footer in settings: layouts, obstacles, and the catalog live in Room on this device; preferences use DataStore; no account and no storefront billing in this build. The Android manifest has no INTERNET permission. Share uses the system sheet you invoke; FileProvider only exposes cache/share.
Privacy (in-app) — Offline geometry studio. No accounts, no emails collected, no layouts sent to a server. No analytics SDK, no advertising ID, no cloud sync, no license check, no Play Billing. Cut-sheet share and nest export use the share sheet you open; TileNest does not upload that text or image itself. Delete a layout or material, or clear app storage, to wipe Room and DataStore.
Terms (in-app) — Planning aid for tile geometry. Not a structural, waterproofing, or building-code approval. You confirm field measurements, thinset, membrane, and local code with a qualified setter. Box counts and grout volumes are estimates from the nest engine and the coverage you enter. Do not rely on sliver warnings as a substitute for a dry-fit on the wall. Provided as-is for personal and trade use on this device.
If a nest will not save, a share sheet does not appear, or a sliver callout looks wrong for the wall you measured, write the developer. Name the job, the pattern, millimetres or inches, and whether you were on Layouts, Bench, Catalog, or Insights. A short note about the last slider or obstacle you moved is enough to start. There is no in-app chat and no account — mail is the channel.

The in-app terms already say box counts and grout litres are estimates. Support can explain how the engine counts a cell; it cannot approve a waterproofing stack or a building inspection.
A cell that is not fully inside the room (or that hits a niche / doorway / obstacle) is a cut. It becomes a sliver if the smaller visible side is between 0.5 mm and your sliver minimum, or if the overhang past a wall is under that minimum. Amber labels name Left edge, Right edge, Start wall, Far wall, or Cut. The job slider sets sliver min from 8–60 mm; Settings stores a default (20 mm, 8–50 mm).
The engine takes the larger of two ceils: needed area (net m² plus computed waste) divided by coverage-per-box, and cell count divided by tiles-per-box — then at least one box. Coverage at or below 0.05 m² is ignored. You type coverage and tiles-per-box on the material, or they come from the seeded catalog.
Share cut sheet sends plain text (subject “Cut sheet · {name}”) through the Android chooser. Export nest writes a 1080×1080 PNG of the field (plaster room, full / cut / sliver fills, brown obstacle blocks) into the app cache and shares that image plus the same text. TileNest does not upload either; you pick the destination app.
Yes. The workbench bar toggles MM / INCH for the open job (25.4 mm per inch). Settings has Default inches for new drafts. Display rounds to one decimal and drops the fraction when it is under 0.05.
No. Settings and the privacy screen say the kit is offline-first: Room for layouts, obstacles, and materials; DataStore for theme, units, sliver default, and onboarding. No account, no storefront billing in this build. The manifest does not declare INTERNET. Search empty-state: “Seeded jobs stay on-device.”
Fourteen named layouts (with the obstacles listed above) and twelve catalog modules. Onboarding page three says you leave with full/cut counts, waste percent, grout volume, and a store-run box count. Skip walkthrough also lands on Nest yard.
